This is a database of Feature Requests proposed in the WikiMapia Forum.

[edit] How to use this page
Please add your request under the most appropriate heading (or create a new heading if required) following the format of existing entries.
Each request must include a definition of the feature. If you wish to provide more detail for a request, please create an article by selecting its red link. Such an article might include:
- a list of reasons users think the feature would be useful
- pros and cons some users can see about it
- a link to the forum post where the feature was proposed and discussed.
Remember to sign your request with four tildes: (~~~~)
It is important to note that this list and its children are not intended to replace the forum. Rather, they are a compilation of all the discussions made on forum and show a summarized version of each feature request, in an organized way.

[edit] Beta x classic features
- Move/resize rectangle: This funstion is still needed to adjust classic map mode. It should also be noted the rectangle ingluences the location of search results.
- Google Hybrid + Wikimapia tags map mode: In classic, there was a way to see both Wikimapia place tags and Google Hybrid layer.
[edit] Roads
- Double name for roads: There should be ways to give more than a name for a road, since it can have a local name and a national name, for example.
- Additional options for roads: Roads should include option to upload photos and to provide a Wikipedia link.
- Nearest streets names should include address streets: When adding a street name, the option to choose the name from nearest streets should include those names from address in the nearby region, so that the link between road and address will be automatically. Now, if one add a road after adding a place in this street, the link is not automatic, na one have to reedit the place.
- Sidewalk or Footpath: It would be nice to have a layer to designate a path that is designated only for foot traffic in urban areas.
- Hover names for roads: When viewing the WikiMapia map, it would be nice to had road names either typed onto the road lines, or have road names appear upon moving your mouse over the line as all other places show names now.
- Shortest way (from here) (to here): As Wikimapia roads are being implemented and we can determine the direction of the roads: left, right or <> I think is the time to implement the system: (from here) (to here) So Wikimapia could use the roads direction to see what is the shortest way to go to a place.
- Add "trail" as another road type
- Exit ramps: Roads should include entrances and exits to highways as a separate layer so they aren't inaccurately labeled as roads or streets.

- Reverting polygon changes: There should be an option to revert polygon changes, to make easy correction of wrong polygons.
- Polygon deletion: If a polygon was made wrongly and one don't know how to fix it and there is no former version to revert, there should be a tool to delete only the polygon.
- Tool to move polygon and rectangle together: There should be a tool to allow users to change polygon and rectangle together. It would be specially useful for places with misaligned images, after recent imagery updates.

- Different standard for address: There should be a feature to allow different kind of address be correctly registered and displayed both on the place tag information page and on WikiMapia Map Layer.
- Possibility to add several addresses for one building, for example for buildings near crossroads (which have two addresses, one for each crossing road). --vladon 08:41, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

- Changing a tag language: If a tag is well described, but in the wrong language, one should be able to change the language of the tag.
- Tooltip translation: When hovering over a site in another language, a translation to your preferred language shows (as in Google Translate)
[edit] Different Proposed Layers
- Private Places Layer: There should be a layer only for private places, so that they can be posted without cluttering the public places map.
- Public aerial photos: Possibility to add public aerial photos as new Layers. (So users could add aerial photos newer than google ones).
- Option to see how was the map on a specific date. Example: We specify 10 january 2003. So the map will be reproduced exactly like it was on that date. + Option to add places to not show on current map, but only show on the map of a specific date or during a specific time. Like from 05 decemeber 2000 until 05 january 2002
- Layer for Wikicommons photos: Layer to be possible to see Wikicommons photos on Wikimapia.
- Historical layer: This layer should be used to add places that existed in the past, but were destroyed or something new was built on that area.

- Roads in watchlists: Watchlists should be sensitive to road changes.

- Automatic rejection of tags: Based on keywords system, there should be an automatic tool to avoid offensive addition of offensive tags.

- Search Tool for Forum: The Forum should have a search tool, to make easier finding old threads about a specific theme.
[edit] WikiMapia Wiki
- Promoting administrators for WikiMapia Wiki: Some users should be promoted to administrators of WikiMapia Wiki.
- Different languages for WikiMapia Wiki: There is no organized way to add articles in different languages. There should be fixed policies to define it or a website structure to receive different languages, like Wikipedia.
[edit] Miscellaneous
Place here feature requests that do not fit under any of the headings above (or create a new heading if that seems more appropriate).
- Go to page in search results sidebar: The navigation under search results (or watchlist entries) is too slow and difficult, because one can only go to the next or back page. we should be able to go directly to a specific page, by using a "Go to page" button.
- Container: With this feature, one should be able to associate buildings of a university to the university itself (the container), making possible relation between tags (now all tags are taken as if they were independent of all other tags).
- Temporary places: There should be a tool to create places with an auto-deletion process after a certain time. It would be good to tag events, with no requirements to some user delete it after some days.
- Tool for converting a place to terrain patches (Water and Land): There are many Water and Land objects created as a place. There should be a way how to convert them to the new way of marking water and land areas.

- Show area measure of places "polygons" created. (When we click on a place)
[edit] Statistics
- Show on browser's title bar all places inside the area. Example: World/Brazil/Rio de Janeiro/neighborhood/... If I click on link neighborhood I'll see all places inside this polygon. The way is working now stops on city.
- Show total of Kilometers of roads we have on a specific area (city) for example. OBS: Should have aditional information like: the shortest and longest road and total (number) of roads too.
