Interstate 95 (I-95) is a north-south mainline interstate route from Miami, Florida to the Canadian border near Houlton, Maine. It enters Virginia from North Carolina south of Emporia, Virginia. It enters Maryland near Alexandria, Virginia after brushing the D.C. border. I-95 passes through Petersburg, Richmond, Fredericksburg, Springfield, and Alexandria. It parallels U.S. Highway 1 from Petersburg, through Richmond, to Washington, D.C. I-95 is one of the busiest roads on the east coast, connecting to major northeastern cities such as New York and Boston. It runs concurrently with U.S. Route 17 for 7 miles around Fredericksburg.
