This highway starting from its junction with National Highway-1 (New) near Srinagar and connecting Banihal, Jammu and Kathua in the state of Jammu & Kashmir Pathankot, Mukeriyan, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Rajpura in the state of Punjab, Ambala, Karnal, Panipat and Kundli in the state of Haryana, then entering Delhi and connecting Faridabad, Palwal and Hodal again in the state of Haryana, Mathura and Agra in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Dhaulpur in the state of Rajasthan, Morena, Gwalior and Datia in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Jhansi, and Lalitpur again in the state of Uttar Pradesh, Sagar, Narsimapur, Lakhanadon and Seoni again in the state of Madhya Pradesh, Nagpur, Jamb and Pandharkawada in the state of Maharashtra, Adilabad, Nirmal, Ramayampet, Hyderabad, Kurnool, Gooty, Anantpur and Penukonda in the state of Andhra Pradesh, Devanahalli and Bengaluru in the state of Karnataka, Hoshur, Krishnagiri, Dharampuri, Salem and ending at Kanyakumari in the state of Tamilnadu.
