U.S. Route 1 Business in Fredericksburg is the original route of U.S. Route 1 (a U.S. numbered highway running from Florida to Maine) between Four Mile Fork at Route 208 and the Falmouth Bridge. A bypass of downtown Fredericksburg was built in the 1940s as U.S. Route 1 Alternate. In the early 1970s, U.S. Route 1 was moved to the bypass and U.S. Route 1 Business was created over the old route. Today, the road provides access to Lee Drive in the Fredericksburg Battlefield, the Fredericksburg National Cemetery, historic downtown Fredericksburg, and many businesses within downtown or in the outskirts.

Virginia Route 2 is a primary state route running 54 miles from Richmond to Fredericksburg. It runs concurrent with US-301 for over half us its route from Richmond to Bowling Green. It is a quieter alternative to the I-95/US-1 corridor, running no more than 10 miles to the east.
