North Stone Avenue (Tucson, Arizona)

Named during Arizona's Territorial period for Colonel John Finkle Stone (circa 1836-1869). He was a colonel in the Union Army and owner of the first house on Stone Avenue at McCormick Street. Stone also operated a mine near Apache Pass, where he later died during an Apache attack. Between 1926 and 1990, Stone Avenue was part of U.S. Highways 80 and 89.
