W.R. Allen Road (Toronto, Ontario)
Built in 1964 and completed in 1971, his is the only portion of the proposed Spadina Expressway that was completed before freeway revolts in the late 1960s and early 1970s killed any further freeway development within the City of Toronto's limits.
The freeway's proposed purpose was to link the Gardiner Expressway to Highway 401, as a potential bypass of Highway 11 (Yonge Street), as well as to provide traffic from Barrie along Highway 400 a semi-direct freeway connection to Downtown (as Highway 27 was still being upgraded to 427 and the Don Valley Parkway was not yet completed, either).
Today, it serves merely as a quick link between North York and Toronto across Highway 401.
