| One of the reasons that was not included is the name of [public school] means different things in some countries. In the UK, public schools is in fact private schools, but in many countries public schools are state run schools. If it is included in the synonym it could cause confusion. |

May I please request the creation of the category [[b:2ag43aal]barangay[/b:2ag43aal]]? [i:2ag43aal]Barangays[/i:2ag43aal] are the smallest administrative division in the Philippines. <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barangay">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barangay<!-- m -->
The categories [[b:2ag43aal]district[/b:2ag43aal]] and [[b:2ag43aal]village[/b:2ag43aal]] had been used because of its absence. However, they cause confusion because [[b:2ag43aal]district[/b:2ag43aal]]s are different from [i:2ag43aal]barangays[/i:2ag43aal] in some places, especially in the Metro Manila area. Villages, on the other hand, could mean different places such as:
a. [Sitio]s (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitio">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sitio<!-- m -->) b. [Purok]s (<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purok">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Purok<!-- m -->) c. [sub-village]s, and d. [residential neighborhood]s, among others.
If we use [village] on [i:2ag43aal]barangay[/i:2ag43aal] tags, filtering them through category search will show all of these places too instead of just [i:2ag43aal]barangays[/i:2ag43aal]. Creating [[b:2ag43aal]barangay[/b:2ag43aal]] will make all of the 42,028 [i:2ag43aal]barangay[/i:2ag43aal] tags in the country uniform and consistent. |

Thanks for the prompt reply. Yes, [i:2nv6pemk]barangay[/i:2nv6pemk]s were once known as [i:2nv6pemk]barrio[/i:2nv6pemk]s. However, the term has become obsolete and its usage has declined since about the 1970s when a Philippine president renamed them into [i:2nv6pemk]barangay[/i:2nv6pemk]s. Most people nowadays use the term [i:2nv6pemk]barangay[/i:2nv6pemk] to refer to the administrative division, while [i:2nv6pemk]barrio[/i:2nv6pemk] has a negative connotation of a far-flung rural undeveloped area, at least in the Philippines.
[quote:2nv6pemk]Quote from Wikipedia article: The Spanish term barrio (abbv. "Bo.") was used for much of the 20th century until President Ferdinand Marcos ordered their renaming to barangays in the 1970s. The name survived the 1986 EDSA Revolution, though older people would still use the term barrio.[/quote:2nv6pemk] |

I think it should be changed to [barangay], since JAT86 said the term of 'barrio' is first of all a Spanish term, and secondly, it is now obsolete. |

In the Philippines [b:14edbe8y]Districts[/b:14edbe8y] are different to [b:14edbe8y]Barangays[/b:14edbe8y]. I'd like to request a category for "trading post", in the sense of a historic outpost at which goods were bought and traded along trade routes. At one time, such places were scattered across the North American landscape, both in the early years of colonization, and as exploration and settlement pushed west. Of course, trading posts are also found in other areas of the world as well. Currently, we don't have a category that really zeros in on this type of structure. Yes, it qualifies as a "store/shop" in a vague sense, but I feel there are enough of these places to warrant a specific category for it, especially considering the historical context of such structures. Currently the closest category is "trading", which is too generic. Here's an example:
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=35.529116&lon=-113.427524&z=20&m=b&show=/32937088">wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=35.52 ... =/32937088<!-- m --> |

| Also would like to request "Prairie School architecture". Frank Lloyd Wright was obviously the most notable architect to design in this style, but other architects utilized it as well. The majority of places (but not necessarily all) tagged "Frank Lloyd Wright (architect)" should also receive this tag. |

I could not find any category [outskirts] or [city limits] to use for communities near the city limits. I think having an [outskirts/city limits] category would be very useful in order to readily know which areas (communities, administrative divisions, villages) form the edges of the city. Besides, we already have [city centre], so why not [city limits/outskirts]? I am doubtful if [suburb] could be used for such purpose. Even though suburbs usually denote residential neighborhoods away from the city centre, they do not necessarily form the limits/edges of the city.

I would find a "city limits/outskirts" category to be too ambiguous and unspecific. It would imply a region that does not have definite boundaries in geographic vernacular and therefore could not be tagged. I don't think it would be a "worthy" category since it has a narrow vernacular.
Suburbs, rural, region....these would suffice for anything that could be used to describe something that would come even close to this concept. And, frankly, a community "near the city limits" [b:3jsw7lnj][u:3jsw7lnj]IS[/u:3jsw7lnj][/b:3jsw7lnj] the definition of a suburb <!-- s:ugeek: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_ugeek.gif" alt=":ugeek:" title="Uber Geek" /><!-- s:ugeek: --> |

Hi, I was wondering why there is no category for [b:3dyhjem6][u:3dyhjem6]"InterContinental Hotels"[/u:3dyhjem6][/b:3dyhjem6]?
"InterContinental Hotels Group PLC informally InterContinental Hotels or IHG is a British multinational hotels company headquartered in Denham, UK. IHG has over 710,000 rooms and 4,800 hotels across nearly 100 countries."
<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterContinental_Hotels_Group">en.wikipedia.org/wiki/InterConti ... tels_Group<!-- m -->
I there are many objects that could benefit from the addition of this category.
Such as: <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=40.755368&lon=-73.974008&z=19&m=b&tag=50&show=/4728034/InterContinental-New-York-Barclay">wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=40.75 ... rk-Barclay<!-- m -->
Child categories would include: [u:3dyhjem6][b:3dyhjem6](if applicable and already in the Wikimapia category database) [/b:3dyhjem6][/u:3dyhjem6]
[i:3dyhjem6] "Candlewood Suites, Crowne Plaza, Even, Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Hotel Indigo, Hualuxe, InterContinental and Staybridge Suites"[/i:3dyhjem6]

Office vs Office Building I can only find the category office building. What do you do in case of an appartment building with an office in it? The building I live in has 72 apartments, 2 offices and a bank. The offices and the bank are in wikimapia as separate places (company name), but no category assigned to the offices, as office building is not correct in this case. Regards Thomas |

A building like this which contains a wide range of tenanted establishments/services should be categorized as [mixed-use building]. [apartment building] should be used for buildings which only have apartments and [office building] should only be used for buildings with only offices.
You may assign [office] to the two offices and [bank] to the bank; all three of these are already nested to the parent building. If you add residential apartments in the future (yes, they can be added), be sure to assign them with the [apartment] category.
To find your required category, please type the name in the category search box and it will appear in the suggestion menu if it is available. |

Request category addition "District Headquarter" . It refers to headquarter of 2nd level Administrative Division in south Asia. While we have a category " taluka headquarter" for 3rd level Administrative Division in South Asia, we do not have one for level above.
There are a total of 676 districts as of 2014, in India. I keep coming across category District added to these headquarter cities, which is not right as District refers to a much larger area. |

The [url=https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seaside_resort:2ls0wzct]Wikipedia article[/url:2ls0wzct] states a seaside resort is a [u:2ls0wzct]resort town[/u:2ls0wzct] or [u:2ls0wzct]resort hotel[/u:2ls0wzct] with a specific note stating 'beach resort' is applicable to seasides where the beach is the focus of tourism.
1) Is there a need for a category that does not distinguish between towns and hotels? I can see pros and cons for this, but the idea of one category lumping towns and hotels together should be taken with caution.
2) Would the creation of this new category open the door for a need to make further refinements between beach resorts and seaside resorts? This does sound like splitting hairs on the face of it, but is there a [u:2ls0wzct]need[/u:2ls0wzct] for it? |

[quote="JAT86":3krlr785]I could find only [beach] and [resort] as separate categories to add to a 'beach resort' tag. Would adding [seaside/beach resort] be a good idea since there are many of these in coastal/tropical countries.

[seaside/beach resort] category as a clubbed category is a good idea. Many resorts are at seaside but not necessarily with access to a beach as they may be located on a cliff. We already have a category for "mountain resort" which identifies the terrain in location of a resort. |

[quote:2d5h7tl7]but is there a need for it?[/quote:2d5h7tl7] I did an area in Kerala recently and was searching for a [seaside/beach resort] category too. Since there were resorts in the backwaters and directly at the beach frequently this category would fulfill both requirements. |

Nice to see some support for this category! <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_e_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) --> I've gone ahead and created it [url=http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=22.593726&lon=-88.417969&z=3&m=b&tag=1159&show=/object/category/?type=view&id=63318&lng=0&tab=main:zjiifn2u]here[/url:zjiifn2u]. I've [url=http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=22.593726&lon=-88.417969&z=3&m=b&tag=1159&show=/object/category/?type=view&id=63318&lng=0&tab=hierarchy:zjiifn2u]nested[/url:zjiifn2u] it under [resort] to facilitate root 'resort' searches.
I've created a collaboration [url=http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=22.593726&lon=-88.417969&z=3&m=b&tag=1159&show=/user/tools/collaborations/?id=162:zjiifn2u]here[/url:zjiifn2u] and the associated forum topic is [url=http://wikimapia.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=14267:zjiifn2u]here[/url:zjiifn2u] for anybody wishing to help out in cleaning [resort] from seaside/coastal resorts and replacing it with [seaside/beach resort]. |

[quote="RK77":2jigvp8s]I've nested it under [resort] to facilitate root 'resort' searches.[/quote:2jigvp8s] I'm going to remove [seaside/beach resort] from [resort] until the collaboration has been completed. This is because [seaside/beach resort] places which have been cleaned will still show up in a [resort] category search as a result of the nesting association. |
