I am a strong supporter of wiki ideology. Interested in literature, sciences (astronomy, different kind of physics, biology), computer sciences, history, languages, photography. Mostly busy and fighting with world economical crisis :(

I strongly agree with this. An open project would encourage more developers to join and participate. The code would improve faster. The project would be more responsive to the needs of the community.

Definitely signed.

Actually, anyone concerned about non-free use of their photos by Wikimapia should be encouraged to upload them at Wikimedia Commons.

<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page">commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Main_Page<;!-- m -->

If the photos are freely available at Commons, they'll have no "resale value."

What are they planing? Why did nobody tell us that they changed the terms?? This cannot be serious!
I mean, they do kill the project if the content isn't free!

The thing is (and it will always remain this way I guess) the Admins sadly never
consider advizing anyone about anything "before" acting or "implementing" this site.

Wikimapia is their site and we have nothing to ask...:-(

I really (still hope) think communication could be improved...

I strongly agree
But i have not great expectations
I suspect that this project is intended to give profit to the owners one day or another
the visibility will be more important than the quality

After being away from WM for a long time, I came back and saw that things (pitifully) changed here...
The admins' dictatorship had begun! Just like I imagined it would be. Now they are showing their true colours.

True "wiki ideology" means open source and free license.

Agreed. Signed.

Commercial interests are always the most efficient way to induce development, but MUST be counterbalanced by a reasonable sense of community contribution. Administrative dictatorship hasn't changed in spite of so many petition signatures. Can you imagine if it would ever change at all without it???

Since Wikimapia is now Open-Content under Creative Commons license(<!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="blog.wikimapia.org/node/33">blog.wikimapia.org/node/33<;!-- m -->), the issue seems to be resolved. The petition is no longer needed.
