Agreed and signed with exception that I would rather Wikimapia itself stays closed-source, however, its API must be as open and expandable as possible.

I also agree that WM should trend to more open-license, copyright-free content.

I quote from the terms-reference:

´...by submitting the User Submissions to WikiMapia, you hereby grant WikiMapia a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free, sublicenseable and transferable license to use, reproduce, distribute, prepare derivative works of, display, and perform the User Submissions in connection with the WikiMapia Website and WikiMapia's (and its successor's) business, including without limitation for promoting and redistributing part or all of the WikiMapia Website (and derivative works thereof) in any formats and through any services...´

The goal of the petition is to change the Terms of Service to Wikimapia Free, like Wikipedia.

In the present Wikimapia project is a crew: direction, administrators, managers, employees, agents (see the Terms).
The users-contributors have the status of volunteers, without a work contract.
There is no exchange-power-relation between the direction and the volunteers.
This means that the volunteers can just ventilate their opinion to the owners of the project, and that´s is.
Wikimpia goes in the direction of a professional organisation, with fall and stand-up moments, some mistakes, like in some (starting) organisations.
The direction of Wikimpia is not only volunteer, but, in my opinion, is also interested in some financial compensation. We can read in the Terms that it is not excluded that Wikimapia will be sold.
If we, users, want to have some real influence in the project, we can ask for a paid job in Wikimapia. We can negotiate then with the direction about the workconditions, tools etc.
We can eventually share in the possible profit that may come from a Free Wikimapia (advertisements and other possible revenues).

Agreed and signed. Even though I don't think things will change this fast, we should at least have a larger "Wikimapia Team" with some important users in it as well, so the decisions are not so closed.

10,507,355 total places as I write this!
That's a heck of a lot of truly international volunteer work!

With all due respect to the creators of this wonderful resource, (which has a lot more potential);
I'm concerned about where this project is headed, it hasn't really improved at the rate of, or in the way, many crowd-sourcing projects like Wikipedia have.

Agreed and signed.
