There's seems a problem when using image URLs in uploading photos of a tag. After finishing the upload duration it will says '[color=#FF0000:3quneuyl]File is too small[/color:3quneuyl]' then the uploaded photo fails. I've already created a Bug Report for this.

| This old problem has reactivated. I cannot upload a photo to the new object (even if created 3 days ago) while I can add it to the "1-year-old". However, there is one exception in comparison with the April case - the linear objects 'accept' photos, even if it is e.g. a street created by me right now. |

Hi -- newbie here.
For the last three days I've been unable to upload images. The upload tool allows me to select a file on my hard drive, and the file appears to be uploading. But after a few moments a red "no file uploaded" message appears in the "Current photos" box and that's that.
[list:8jn4hoz8]* My photos are all on my local hard drive.
* The ones for upload have been sized to 1400 X 1050 px, or between 400 and 800 kB. So not very big.
* I use Chromium on Linux, or Chrome on Windows.
* All the images are photos I took myself at the places mapped.[/list:u:8jn4hoz8]
I successfully added 52 images before the problem started.
As a newbie, I hesitate to file a bug report before I hear from more experienced users. Anybody have an idea what's wrong?

Tried:

* Resizing photos to under 256 kB
* Using Wikimapia Classic
* Using Wikimapia old version
* Using a clean install of PaleMoon browser, instead of Chromium[/list:u:1f27szcu]

I try for 1400 X 1050 px images, usually, so I haven't been near the minimum size limit you note. Good to know it exists; thanks!
I still have problems. In some cases I've been able to upload images to tags I've created in the last few days; in other cases I cannot upload to a recent tag no matter what I try. One of the most annoying is [url:339o4axz]http://wikimapia.org/#lang=en&lat=44.437580&lon=-121.366653&z=13&m=b&show=/31602951/Alder-Springs-Basin[/url:339o4axz] -- I've got some pics of interesting rock pinnacles and cliffs, and darned if I can get them to upload!
Perhaps in time database updates will fix the problem. |

The problem of adding photos to just created places has disappeared today. However, as we remember, it should be solved as it cyclically returns.

It directly depends [b:74hiaupo]on how 'fresh' [/b:74hiaupo] your place tags are (today's, yesterday's...), please check thoroughly[i:74hiaupo] (I might be wrong?)[/i:74hiaupo]
It always (I would even say persistently, as a matter of fact) happens with newly created place tags, and (almost) [b:74hiaupo]never with older ones[/b:74hiaupo].

This issue is so [b:g3ksz20u]frustrating[/b:g3ksz20u]! Seems lately to not work more than it works. Bug reports are 3 months arrears in review. How can such a primary function as photo uploading in Wikimapia go unaddressed for so long?
Anybody know how we can start a petition asking the owners/administrators to address this issue for a permanent fix? |

Fact of the matter is, there is no admin dealing with the bug issue for quite a while.
Do by all means start a petition if you think that could help. Personally I am not sure what good that action can be or how permanent the fix could be. |

I did not make experiments to determine "blast radius" of this bug, but the closest object, that was OK is located some 30 km to the north. I cannot even imagine the source of the trouble, though I am a programmer myself. The only explanation is that there are some physical servers for storing photos. And some of them (that is responsible for this area) is down. But this seems unlikely to me. So what should I do?

The discussion is now continuing mostly in Russian branch of the forum. We determined the source of the trouble. It is not connected with the location (as I previously thought). It's about the creation time of the object. This bug affects objects created after the first week of November. These objects have some error in database description that makes them unable to be connected with photo data. Now we are also awaiting for the reaction of admins. It really became very slow in the past time.
So there is no trouble adding photos to objects crated before November 2014. Only newer objects suffer from this bug. I'll write here when it's fixed (or more precisely [i:pb7w9795]if[/i:pb7w9795] it's fixed). |

Will this affect Wikimapia directly or indirectly (and to what extent), who knows?

I suppose, even if they declare that Earth is the center of the universe, and Sun and stars rotate around it, it will not change much in natural course of things. The same is with this declaration. It's very sad that such unskilled people work in the system that creates laws for the whole country. And, by the way, there is no personal data stored in WM - no passport data, no full address of a person or something like that. Name, login and email can not be qualified as such data.
By the way, I managed to contact the developers team and reported the bug (it is a bug indeed). They promised to fix it as soon as possible. |
