Hello All!
We have made a major update of Wikimapia BETA. The main thing - BETA now is faster and you will notice it, many internal functions were rewritten just for this. Also in design of the information window you may notice back and forward buttons, which really helps in navigation.
There are not too many things left to completely release Wikimapia BETA, old version will also be accessible.
Few days ago I put some lines of roads interface to translation system, if you don't see them in your language, you may help to translate it at wikimapia.org/translate/
Also linear databases were changed, this allow us to store, use, export and to do other manipulations without problems with all road/railroad/river/ferry networks in the world. And we made them more precise: positioning from 1-2 meters to within 0.1-0.2 m. (like the places). At this time we have 17 000 000 segments of linear features (in October 2008 we had only 500 000). |

for me the arrows r working as forward n backward buttons!
so useful when cheking history of a tag....
no need to close n reopen to edit
these buttons take u back. |

Yeah, ok. They do work once I've got into a window and done some navigation. An improvement, but marginal IMO.
They could do with a bit more contrast between the greyed-out and functional buttons. |

Road editing is bugged now. I tried to add some points to a road that was a bit rough, and when I saved, BOTH versions of road appeared. I tried to delete the old version several times, but it is restored immediately after saving it, making it useless.
wikimapia.org/beta/#lat=55.5045276&lon=25.5807209&z=14&... and follow along this road north, there are at least three places where you can notice this bug, because I realized about it only then.

I don't know whether this is a WM Beta bug or not, but I am trying to change my password and although I am typing the correct old password, I get the message "You insert wrong old pass!".
So I now cannot change it because the system does not recognize my old password when it comes to changing it. Thankfully I can still log-in with no problems. |

all: I decided to disable roads till tomorrow, we have to fix a bug when we cannot delete some segments and to fix naming roads.

| This update is very much appreciated, koriakine. Thanks for expending labor on the performance - that helps quite a bit. Maybe you could explain a bit more about what changing the data model for the linear features has enabled in terms of changes to function or performance (the higher precision is clear in what it brings). To the developers:
Thanks for the upgrade.
I would like to see a list of the changes and the TODO list. And a revision number. I also hope that you keep this a beta release until most of the bugs have been discovered and fixed. User testing is vital, they will find things never anticipated by the programmers.
I also suggest that you collect the many good suggestions from the Forum and incorporate the best or most feasible of those in the next release.
I look forward to the Retail version. :-)

Right now I experienced the same thing as rdale1 that road segments disappeared after it is saved. I can't find out creator of linear works, can't name the road....
I think I better not attempt to do any more road work until all problems are ironed out. It is so frustrating. |

I can save a road segment and it's still there.
The problem I noticed is when I'm trying to continue an existing one-way road, the new segments have the opposite direction. Before, the direction was preserved when continuing a road, and that was of course the correct behavior. |

Do we still have the function to name roads and find out creator of road work after the update? At the moment, I can't do either.
Also I find the arrow indicating directions in the 'properties' not easy to see at times being it is a faint yellow outline. I have to look really hard to notice which direction it is pointing towards before I click for it to be saved. I am not referring to after the direction had been saved, it then would still appear as red arrows. |

| I must say, I'm quite impressed with how this is coming together. Great work! I've been adding several of the new features to areas, and it works quite well for the most part. You've definitely opened a window to further possibilities. I can't wait to start adding the applicable street and road names that I've been working on lately. The River's feature works well too, though it is not always very responsive to resizing. It might be good to one day have some sort of feature to show a river passing below a road (through a tunnel or under bridge) but this is a Great start. :) |

yeah we can add names..but smtimes some problems still exist..or may be thts becoause i dont know some restrictions..like changing the previous name of any road.n some others i felt yesterday....
apart from this my road work on my profile isnt being updated..before the updating started it was some 28000 plus k-m and after that if im not exaggerating i added some 3000 K-m more but on my profile its still that way..
if some one can explain.. |

| I think the statistic on road segments and distance is frozen at the moment. It might have something to do with all the bugs the admins are still trying to fix. Not being computer technology minded, I am afraid I can't give a reason. Just my hunch. |
