>>In fact, capability to work over Google layers was removed from beta some months ago, due to possible copyright problems. So, i think it's not exactly a decision admins took because they liked it, but just because they thought it was necessary to avoid copyright problems.<<
If copyright is an issue, why I can do ANYTHING in Google Layers? Draw a polygon in Wikimapia sat, switch to Google Terrain, and I can move and delete points, but not add them. To draw a reasonably accurate polygon of a terrain elevation feature, I can either repeatedly switch back and forth, or add a large number of points before I move to Terrain so I have enough to work with.
Sorry, but I "miss the point." If it's a copyright violation, I shouldn't be able to do anything at all in Terrain. If it isn't a violation, I should have full capability. |

As I said before - I work in Beta. But Classic has some advantages. I checked the filtering now - nothing works. I don't have problems like those you have - who just now start working in beta and can't get used. But I see the trend in the development in Wikimapia I don't like...
1. The polygons - a good thing but they took the rectangles away. 2. The roads and the "points" they gave. Now all cities are flooded with every possible street and you can't switch it off. 3. The historical places were banned but now it is OK to mark a house or a totally uninteresting block of flats. 4. The Map layer is the first view you see in Wikimapia. The satellite view is only a supplement.
Everything shows an evident outcome - change in the general direction. Now the object of so called Wikimapia is THE MAP VIEW. Everything is done to ease it, to direct users to it, to make them to think for Wikimapia in it. Who doesn't like it is thrown out of board, who doesn't agree with it has to go away.
Sorry folks, this is the outcome of all recent steps. Classic will stay a couple of months and will go away. The marking of every building will become the goal, no matter what is it. "My sweet home" will be welcome - it looks so great in Map View! All of us who disagree will abandon the project and a new generation of markers who hasn't heard of rectangles will come.
May be I will stay for a while trying to do what I think is valuable and some day I will be banned for deleting too much dull houses. |

Beta is good but does not look organized in areas where the boundaries are not that accurate, or when the polygons overlap another's borders, it just results in "clutter" to the map.
But anyway, at least with this, mapping of private residences "appears" more acceptable as long as they have accurate boundaries. |

AK & Jaksav:
2 bug reports. 1). Adding places no longer starts with a polygon rectangle. Please reuturn this feature. 2). After I try to add a place in the new version, the system reverts to beta, not to classic.
~Edit In fact, after doing just about everything the map reverts to beta, despite me having selected the classic option from the menu.
Fix this so the map stays in CLASSIC AT ALL TIMES WHEN THE USER HAS SELECTED IT.

I agree with MHibbs.
It seems that most of the users (especially the veteran ones, including myself) prefer the old Classic Wikimapia rather than the new one. |

It's only the begining... Today I deleted 5 places put over the old ones because the user didn't see the old places. In the next months this will take may be 30% of the time here |

Beta/classic pages load very very very very very slowly.
You still get kicked out of classic mode after editing/searching/adding.
The 'new' beta/classic category adding option is simply awful and difficult to use. I will not add any categories until it is made much more user friendly, or reverted to the classic mode.
AK & Jaksav what is being done to remedy these problems? |

Second...people will come and people will go. It's sad when productive people leave; especially because of disagreements but if you do decide to leave, respect those that stay and keep the theatrical goodbyes to a minimum.
Third... I have never been treated disrespectfully by AK nor has he treated me as a child. He has always been available and participates in the forum when asked. How many other Wiki's out there have that kind of personalized support? I am convinced that he and his team are working hard for what they believe will benefit WM in the long run.
Fourth...For some reason that eludes me, AK believes it's OK to "test" on a live system and worse, it's OK to do it without first notifying the community. We need to find a clear and convincing way (without threats) to explain that it is not OK.
AK, It is not OK to test on a live system. If you need money for a test system then ask, we can raise the money.

jacksav has just earned my bad vote. For the record this is what I wrote:
"[i:1zgitiaa]4. You've earned my bad vote for mistreating those who helped you make your project great. Whether you ban or demote me or all of the UL2's you are not gaining anything. On the contrary you are losing your most diligent users who helped you most. Why are you so arrogant? Can't you use reason to support your ideas? If that's the business and administrative plan you have, then I can certainly tell you that you're heading to failure.[/i:1zgitiaa]" |

Has the admins gone mad! I can't believe this! Deleting threads from forum, banning respectable users, is that the example you are setting for users in Wikimapia?
These childish behaviors won't solve anything. You can't delete threads and pretend nothing has happened and you sure as hell can't silence us all! [b:d33tntv5]This site is nothing without active contributions from users like us!![/b:d33tntv5] and with this kind of behaviors, you are scaring off the very users who have helped you in getting Wikimapia to where it is today.
This is totally unacceptable. You must apologize to all users and especially to Aldi1 and Ren. You may own this website but you don't own us! You can't just ban or demote users at will! If this is the road you have chosen to take then I see no future for Wikimapia. Soon there won't any user to contribute to Wikimapia other than vandals! |

The admins must realise that Wikimapia *IS* the community! If the best contributors leave -- people who have donated thousands of hours to the advancement of this amazing new map -- it's nothing but a half-finished database of tags. Wikimapia is still young, and we are its pioneers.
AK, I hope you will soon realise how important it is to handle this situation, and come talk to the community! It may be hard to restore our trust... |

This is really irritating, inspite of all the troubles now happening here with the implemented WM Beta I tried still to contribute by deleting inappropriate tags (which my request is still pending, I think nobody of the UL2 pay attention anymore on the "Deletion Requests Thread" or ignore it as part of the protest) and still to continue tagging places.
At the time I save my created tag I thought something went wrong, the description box is just showing blank. I opened another tab and refresh the page several times, but still I cannot see any rectangle nor polygon. So I repeated the process again, just the same. So the end result, I have to delete my own created tag because I just made a duplicate of another one that I just created. This thing I never experienced during the time I'm using WM Classic.
Because of this inconvenience I tried just to surf around the net to look for another site similar to WM which I could also make senseful contributions. And I found one, but as of the moment I am still reviewing and studying their terms of use. It seems to me that the website is more strict in Users Contribution, in this way they could maintain their site clean from vandals. I made already my first edit on that website thru the help of WM (I could use this website as a pattern, thanks).
But as a comparison, working in WM Classic is more manageable, easy in other words User Friendly. Sadly it is not here anymore. |

@laileen
just to explain part of your comment... I'm not contributing to WM by now, simply because i lost my motivation here. It used to be fun and i used to be glad of contributing to such project, but now it's not true anymore... Some users who mostly look at that thread are gone... Scot (stcraftie59) has not logged in since 2 days. Renkessler was banned (probably) for a while.
The community as we knew it has gone... (maybe it went away, together with old classic WM...) |

Thanks to user "Columbus" because he was the first one who recognized my work here. After receiving a vote from him I was motivated and became more active and started to join the forum. And just like you I have so much fun contributing to WM, BEFORE.
Now I'm unhappy too because helpful people are leaving WM. I also know Scott (stcraftie59) because he was once helping me in embedding a youtube link here and sometimes responding to my deletion request. And I realized helpful users that I often see in the forum are gone, hmmm tsk-tsk. |
