Experience points
Experience points is a feature of WikiMapia that helps to automatically determine Experience levels. They accumulate automatically in your account based on your contributions to the WikiMapia project.
The table below shows a list of experience points gained per action, Extra points* are awarded if you have joined a collaboration.

User levels
There are three basic levels of users:
- Level 0 (UL0): unregistered or newly registered, can perform simple functions like adding locations. Subject to certain restrictions to avoid vandalism.
- Level 1 (UL1): registered users can access almost all functions available.
- Level 2 (UL2): Advanced users can access all functions and has some administrative privileges (protect articles, ban users, among others).
The acronyms refer to the nomenclature in English. For example UL2 comes from English User Level 2.
Rank
How your score ranks amoung other users, the score is determined by the number of places and Linear features are created.
Awards
One to three award stars are automatically given based on various thresholds of one's stats, including:
- Place creation
- Place edition
- Photos addition
- Roads creation
- Railroads creation
- Rivers creation
Voting
Voting is our method of providing positive feedback to you about your contributions to WikiMapia, and for you to provide positive feedback to other users about theirs. People who make a positive contribution to WikiMapia ("describing the world" by creating useful and well-described places) are deserving of a positive vote.

Forum moderators
This role allows the use of moderator tools in the Wikimapia forum. It is given by Wikimapia Team members.
Categories moderators
This role allows the use of moderator tools for Wikimapia categories. It is given by Wikimapia Team members.
Advanced Users
This role is awarded to a member of Wikimapia who has good standing and it provides additional tools and responsibilities to take care of WikiMapia. It is given by the Wikimapia Team members mostly on the recommendations of the other Advanced Users.
Documentors
This role allows to edit Wikimapia Docs (The new Wiki). It is given by Wikimapia Team members.
Forum
The forum is Wikimapia's discussion area, where you can read other users' questions and answers on a variety of topics, ask your own questions and join in the discussions. The people who frequent the forum are other users just like you, although the admins do occasionally contribute as well.
Collaborations
Collaborations are projects created by the Wikimapia community to do such activities, an example is adding polygons to places without polygons. Any registered user 1+ level can create a collaboration, the collaboration has to be approved by the Wikimapia team before it goes into affect. The creator of the collaboration can remove users or finish the collaboration at any time. Only approved collaborations get their own forum topic in the Collaborations section of the forum to discuss about collaborations.
