This is a partial cloverleaf (parclo-B) interchange between Interstate 395 (Shirley Highway) and Secondary Route 648 (Edsall Road) between Lincolnia and Springfield, Virginia, near Edsall Park and Bren Mar Park. The interchange also has a semi-directional flyover from eastbound Route 648 to northbound Interstate 395. When Shirley Highway was built, the interchange was initially a parclo-AB or folded diamond interchange, with all ramps on the south side. The interchange was reconstructed around 1967, mostly in its current configuration, except for a loop ramp in the northwest quadrant. Between 1988 and 1994 ramps were added connecting northbound exit 2A directly to Bren Mar Drive and from Bren Mar Drive to the northbound Interstate 395 entrance ramp. Around 2020, the northwest loop ramp was removed and replaced with a left turn onto a realigned ramp on the southwest quadrant.
