2,690 hectares - Characterized by its unique domed mire bogs and raised dry bogs with fingers of coniferous forest cover and several deciduous and mixedwood forest drumlins, The Big Bog Wilderness Area protects a valuable wetland complex with undisturbed sphagnum moss bogs, surrounded by barrens, and a variety of forested ecosystems.

By protecting wetlands and their associated watersheds, the Wilderness Area plays an essential regional role in the storage of water and regulation of flow. While The Big Bog offers few wilderness travel opportunities, it does lend itself to high quality educational and interpretive opportunities, that are associated with its large bog complex and surrounding habitats.
