  • This area shows the mess hall, enlisted barracks, NCO club, gym/handball center, and HQ. The NCO barracks is located just outside the box at the lower left.
  • The dark roofed building across the street from the identified barracks area is the gymnasium. The building to it's left, facing the gymnasium from the street, is the NCO Club. The wider building in the designated barracks area is the mess hall, and the two barracks at 2:00 from that position were for the 13th Air Defense Command enlisted personnel. The barracks that fall below the mess hall in the box - the long buildings - were all for SAC personnel. If I recall correctly, the building that's kind of a "T" shape is the HQ. If you go to the intersection of the streets located at the lower left corner of the designated block, and travel at a 10:00 direction, the two white buildings you'll see on your right side are the Chapel and offices. The offices are to the left, the chapel to the right, and the offices for the Chaplains was located along the back edge, which appears as a dark area. Across the street from the chapel was the BX. To the left of that, facing the BX from the street, was the Airman's Club, if I remember correctly. If you follow up that street, at 10:00, to the next intersection, and turn left, you'll come to a white building in the middle of the block. That was the base theater. They changed the movies once a week back in the early 60s, and showed younger films during the early, and day time hours on weekends, for kids living in base housing. I believe that the buildings forming a loose "L" shape, about noon from the theater was the BOQ, but can't totally remember. Anyhow, that's what I can remember. I haven't been there in 45 years, but I'd like to see it again, for nostalgia sake.
  • Actually, the bldg. across from the Chapel on the left was not an Airmen's club (the A. F. didn't have those in CONUS, only OCONUS), but rather a base snack bar. 13th FIS A/2C, there in 1964-65.
  • Bronzit, did you happen to know an amn kicklighter while you were there? if so, please email four_four_deuce@yahoo.com
