High Island is an unincorporated area situated on a salt dome, located on the Bolivar Peninsula in eastern Galveston County, Texas, United States. As of the 2000 Census, 500 people resided in High Island.

In 1845 Anson Jones referred to the dome as the "High Islands". Nearby mineral springs attracted Indians, who called the area Doe Island. Jean Laffite is said to have once occupied the area.

High Island, with its substantial wooded areas unlike elsewhere on the upper Texas coast, is a natural refuge for migrating birds making their way across the Gulf of Mexico from the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico into their northern summering grounds in the United States and Canada.

In September 2008 Hurricane Ike impacted High Island with significant storm surge and winds up to 110 mph. The United States Postal Service temporarily relocated High Island's post office box services to Winnie, Texas.
