Established in 1911 on land owned by the Panama Railroad Company. Designated in honor of Count Ferdinand de Lesseps, builder of the Panama Canal.
This is the former Ft. De Lesseps, and was part of the coast defenses in Colón and Cristóbal areas.
Formerly home to the Headquarters, Harbor Defenses of Cristobal, the Headquarters, 1st Coast Artillery Regiment from 1924 to 1932, the Headquarters Headquarters Company, Atlantic Sector from 1932 to 1940, the 6th Company, Coast Defenses of Cristobal from 1919 to 1922, the 119th and 192nd Coast Artillery Companies from 1922 to 1924, and the 1st Coast Artillery, less 3rd Battalion from 1924 to 1932.
