The Lefa gold mine has undoubtedly suffered technical and reliability problems since Crew Gold Corporation acquired the mine in 2006 and installed a second hand CIP plant. Consequently the mine has been unable to achieve production anywhere near Crew Gold Corporation’s predicted gold output and the company has therefore been under some scrutiny. Production in this initial period also suffered during the rainy season, probably a consequence of both an inexperienced management team and mining contractor in place at the time.
