So-Called Magnetic Hill

India / Jammu and Kashmir / Leh /
 hill, interesting place

Not exactly but within 100 m there is a sign for the magnetic hill. In fact it is an optical illusion and a plastic water bottle will roll the same direction as a car parked on the marked spot on the road; it is actually slightly downhill but looks slightly uphill.

  • What Becky says is true. Its just stuff and nonsense. I have put in a picture of a plastic bottle rolling down hill. Actually this point is a la, which has a local name and which I have forgotten. The ancients knew that there was a descent on both sides, and yet experienced Army engineers support this gossip!! A few years ago when the last President of India Abdul Kalam was visiting Ladakh the Army had planned to show him this point, but then wiser counsels prevailed as they said that the President, being a highly technical man himself, would ask searching questions, which they wouldn't be able to answer. And so, untested, the sign remains.
  • I have passed through this magnetic hill, but I don't believe it. refer photo.
