Dashanzi Art District (Beijing)

"Dashanzi Art District" (Chinese: 大山子艺术区; pinyin: Dàshānzi Yìshùqū), also called ' 798 Art Zone', is the informal name of a part of Dashanzi in the Chaoyang District of Beijing that houses a thriving artist community, among 50-year old decomissioned military factory buildings of unique architectural style. It is often compared with New York's Greenwich Village or SoHo, but faces impending destruction from the forces driving Beijing's urban sprawl.

  • is this factory 798?
  • Yes, this is the 798 Factory Complex, not the art district. It actually extends further to the east, covering the round storage tanks. One of them is actually converted into a showroom / exhibit room.
