Before the (so called) 1915-23 Armenian genocide this was Armenian town initially called "Bolorapahak", later "Daroynk" ( Բոլորապահակ { Bolorapahak } or Դարոյնք { Daroynk' }. Since the XIX century it was renamed to "Köprüköy".

"Bolorapahak" means "Guard of all" in Armenian. "Daroynk'" means "Hills" in Armenian. "Köprüköy" means "bridge village" in Turkish. Armenian population of Daroynk as well of Basen district and whole West Armenia was massacred in 1915-23 period by Turks.

Armenian cultural heritage were destroyed e.g. deliberate obliterations prior to convertions to mosques or so-called Seljuk monuments.
