Playland was located in North East Philadelphia on Roosevelt Blvd. at Princeton Ave. It opened in the 1940s.

It was a small urban amusement park, but it had quite a few rides squeezed into its small area. Among them were a Wild Mouse coaster, ferris wheel, scrambler, a big slide, a train and bumper cars.
None of these places are there now. Boulevard Pools and the miniature golf course are now a car dealership, and the amusement park is now a skating rink and K-Mart.

  • I went to Playland and worked there briefly in 1966. The little train for toddlers was called the "shooty-shoots"
  • Hi Barry I spent many HAPPY days there with my family. If there is any chance you had any pictures you could email to me, I would be a very happy camper. I'd love to see that place again....what happy times :)
  • I was supposed to go back there and squish Mureen and Nancy on the Tilt-A-Whirl, and crash them on the bump cars. I hope you rebuild that park, because I'm getting tired waiting. And they taught they'd get me at the tunnel....ha,ha.
  • What happened to the people from the "Tunnel"?
  • I worked there through High School, Had many great times. Lots of great people.
  • I just went to Playland this past week end with my grand daughter. I moved to the Albany area and they have one there just like the Playland in Northeast Philly. Unfortunately, they too are closing Sept 5, 2014. It really took me back. It is called Hoffman's Playland. Look it up. Last chance to see it is this year 2014. What a kick. Got so pics too.
  • Remember the miniature golf course nearby? Question: Where was Tom Gola's Trampolines on the Boulevard? We used to go there as kids but I can't recall the location.
  • I grew up right across the Boulevard from Play-land and the Boulevard Pools. Before the miniature golf course came to be, it was a vacant cinder parking lot. One year, someone set up a miniature live steam railway on the lot.
  • it would be great to reproduce a club like the tunnel and have some kind of an oldies reunion.
  • what years did you work there? i worked there from 70 till the end. i worked mostly upstairs in the charisma room, the ice rink and the bingo hall but spent a lot of time in the tunnel. we probably know each other.
  • Barry might you have a sis named and a drug store on Tyson and battersby
  • I remember the park when you entered you went up hill and boats were to the right I believe. Boats were in a cement round wall and all boats were going round in circle. My brother and sister loved this place also. There was also a roller coaster as you entered. I remember salt and pepper shackled ride all the way in back never went on that to scary. Does anyone have any photos of park back in day. This place was a child memory for all of us. Anne
  • My Uncle Roy Galvin worked there in the 60ies, he drove the railway train.
