Hocking County lies in Ohio's Allegheny Plateau area and is home to the scenic Hocking Hills region. The area is noted for its steep cliffs, deep gorges, and rock shelters. It is home to a number of state parks and forests, and the Buckeye Trail passes through the Hocking Hills region.

Hocking County takes its name from the Hocking River, which flows southeasterly through the county. Its county seat is the town of Logan, and it's part of Ohio's 18th Congressional District.
