Woodhaven is a middle-class neighborhood located in the western part of the borough of Queens in New York City, New York. Woodhaven is bordered on the north by a public park, Forest Park, and Park Lane South. Woodhaven also borders Richmond Hill to the east across 98th street, and Ozone Park to the south at Atlantic Avenue. Its western border is the neighborhood of Cypress Hills in the borough of Brooklyn, across Eldert Lane.

Woodhaven, once known as Woodville, has one of the greatest tree populations in the borough, and thus it has retained its suburban look. Schools, transportation, and park recreation are convenient. The ethnically diverse neighborhood is part of Queens Community Board 9. Woodhaven's Zip Code is 11421.

Commerce is centered on Jamaica Avenue which effectively bisects Woodhaven. On this avenue, are a large number of stores, most being small and locally owned. One of the oldest and best known was Lewis of Woodhaven, which had two locations and closed its doors in 2004. It is served by the FDNY Engine Co.293 whose firehouse is at 79-40 87th St,and is nicknamed the "The Woodhaven Wildcats"

  • wow. the pictures they post make woodhaven look like a pretty sweet place to live. much of woodhaven is pretty decent. the west end bordering cypress hills is not so sweet. they should put pictures of 90th ave as it gets closer to eldert lane. not so nice. i lived there during the crack years. it was drug infested.
  • I try to add pictures that are indicative of the overall "feel" of any given neighborhood, city, village, etc. I do think the ones for Woodhaven are an accurate depiction, if perhaps a little closer to the neighborhood's past than it's present....but you do make a very good point, not all of Woodhaven is so lovely, despite being a pretty solid neighborhood overall.
  • fact of the matter is that the closer you are to cypress hills, the less desirable the street. woodhaven near richmond hills and eastern woodhaven in general is pretty quiet. walk down jamaica ave and it gets very intimidating as you get to the border at elderts lane. every block gets worse and worse from that point. this is expected considering cypress hills and east new york are high crime areas.
