This is a big and very old village which has historic links with Visva-Bharati. Ladies of the Tagore household and associates used to hold training camps for tailoring and such activities here. It is said that due to the caste/religious prejudices prevalent at that time, the seniors of the village used to look askance at the people of Visva-Bharati (often of the Brahmo religion). There is a famous Dharma-raja tola here.
