Muntinlupa City is composed of 9 Barangays and one of these is, Barangay Tunasan, with an estimated land area of 890 hectares, a population of more or less 75,000 inhabitants residing in the barrio proper and in different Subdivision, Puroks and Sitios. It has 13 Subdivisions and Villages, 7 Puroks and 12 Sitios and 1 Industrial Complex, housing 25 factories and business establishments.

Like any other barangays, the early inhabitants of the barrio have some folktales to tell. In the mid-13th century, some Malays headed by Datu Puti migrated to Luzon, looking for a permanent settlement area, but the natives were hostile, so they immediately left the place. Riding in their boats, the Malays found their settlement on the shores of Laguna de Bay. They divided their group into two. Datu Malamig, who settled in calamba, headed one and Datu Tuna Asamal, the eldest son of Datu Malamig, headed the other group. Ey cleared the area and since Datu Tuna Asamal was the chieftain of the place, they decided to call the place Tuna Asamal, which later on was changed to Tunasan.

Still, according to some early settlers, Tunasan was the hiding place of bandits, who oftentimes robbed Chinese traders living in the barrio. Thus, when one native asked the Chinese trader, who he had encountered with , the trader would reply, “Tulisan”, which later on, turned out to be Tunasan.

Now, Barangay Tunasan is a bustling and industrialized zone, located 27 kilometers south Manila, bounded by Barangay Poblacion, on the north; Laguna de Bay, on the east; Municipality of San Pedro, on the south and South Luzon Expressway, on the west.
