The Church of Lazarus (Agios Lazaros) is another magnificent Orthodox Church in Larnaca which was built in the town over the tomb of St. Lazarus, the brother of Mary and Martha. He died here and was buried in the church named after him. In 890 A.D. his tomb was found bearing the inscription "Lazarus the friend of Christ". The marble sarcophagus can be seen inside the church under the Holy of Holies.To

The church celebrates the patron saint always on the Saturday that precedes Easter Saturday and is definitely one of annual highlights of Larnaca. Locals and visitors crowd the area and following the late afternoon / early evening mass the religious leaders of the town, town authorities, member of government and thousands of people go in procession in the streets of Larnaca. Girls and Boy scouts, the Larnaca band, an honorary army squad, chanters and clergymen chanting psalms go through the streets in an exquisite and mystic procession.
