sculpture, observation tower
Sculpture commemorating the 1996 Summer Olympics, originally an observation tower. Privately financed and built by local developer Taz Anderson, it was done without the input of the International Olympic Committee, who were reportedly not pleased that it was drawing attention away from its official Olympic torch. Now, many years after the Olympics, Taz's torch still stands, while the "official" torch stands by itself at a busy intersection near the former location of the Olympic Stadium.
