2000 DeMille Drive (Los Angeles, California)

USA / California / West Hollywood / Los Angeles, California / DeMille Drive, 2000

Former Cecil B. DeMille estate

Built in 1914 and purchased by Cecil B. DeMille in 1916. He lived there until his death in 1959.

The property is (they say) 2.1 acres, but Wikimapia's geotool says it is closer to 1.8. The house is 7,600 square feet with 6 bedrooms and 10 bathrooms. There is a guest house and a pool house.
It had a glassed in Loggia, designed by architect Julia Morgan, connecting it to Charlie Chaplin's residence next door. DeMille bought that residence from Chaplin, adding it to his estate.

Perfect for the growing family. DeMille married Constance Adams on August 16, 1902 and had one child, Cecilia. The couple adopted Katherine Lester in the early 1920s; her father had been killed in World War I and her mother had died of tuberculosis. Katherine married Anthony Quinn. They also adopted two sons, John and Richard, the latter of whom became a notable filmmaker, author, and psychologist. Cecil later built a home, circa 1920s, for his grown daughter Cecilia next door (east) on Linwood Drive.

As of August 2008, it is on the market for $26.5 million.

Rumored to be built on a sacred Indian burial ground.
