Inlay of oval contain the name of "Peter Charles L'Enfant". The inscription was copied from that of an oval in the upper left corner of a copy of the Plan that the Library of Congress possesses. Although now commonly known by his birth name of "Pierre Charles L'Enfant", L'Enfant wrote an Anglicized version of his name in the oval.
