Construction of the dam for the lake began in 1929 and was finished by 1937. The lake is a little more than half its capacity because of siltation.
The former Dallas Naval Air Station sits on the northwestern shore of Mountain Creek Lake. Due to the high levels of PCB released by the air station into the lake, it is forbidden to eat fish from the lake. A power plant sits on the eastern shore.
