I greately love this place as I belong to this place. This town reamined undeveloped since long. No one can reach late evening from any corner. Although it is on the way to Anandpur Sahib even then not much transport improved. Only on rail link Jaijon to Jallandhar which takes 4 times time even more to Jalandhar. It has produces many leaders. But all ignored this town. No one take care for the development of town.

Grahshankar is situated in such place it is a terminal for hoshiarpur to chandigarh hoshiarpur to anandpur sahiband nawanshar linked with six roads together or we can say crossing of six roads . It is very old Tehsil with more than 100 villages, but still the percentage of progress is very less as compared to nawanshar and hoshiarpur even town called bunga. Only residential areas has increased and shops have increases but no big factory or indudtries are intrusted to this place . Niether any political party is intrusted to improve this city .

Ilove this place called Garhshankar. Its situated on Hoshiarpur Chandigarh road ofcourse it has not improved much in comparison to the towns in vicinity, but i think thats good because people in this town still depend on each other and that keeps them close to each other so evry body in the town has got a healthy relation. This town has produced great leaders in nearly all feilds. There is lot of charrity work going arround in temples gurudwaras and mosque of garhshankar. I liked the latest one recently restarted by the younger generation orriginly started by late brig kushal singh in mechhiana near bus stand. The shed made for the cows and the area being cleaned and many more things done by this gaushala trust which i amnot awarwe of because i visit htis place every three years

Well, my adopted village as I'm a Gora who goes to India every year and stays in Garshankar. I was there in December and January 2006/7 and plan to be back there in March of 2007. What can I say. A typical village with narrow alleys, basic roads and a real mixture of homes (some fancy and some basic). You can tell who has relatives abroad and who sends money back I think. Everyone is really friendly and I feel totally at home there and very relaxed. You've got Lala shop, Gurudwaras, a mosque and a Hindu temple and I thik everyone gets on really well with each other. It's a farming community essentially. On the main road you have some industry, a barber, bank, sweet shop, STD/PCO and the road leads to Kuriam and to Nawanshahr for good shopping (clothes and gold) as well as some nice places to eat (East Hoqs and Ramsoms). The main raod was re-layed a couple of years ago and is holding up well. the family I stay with have fam land and it's great to be able to wander. As I speka very little Punjabi, you would think it's difficult to get on but no, everyone welcomes you as if you were a close friend and will wave at you or say hello. Many of the children speak English and a few of the older generation are a bit sus. about a Gora at first. When they get to know you it's all OK.

Great City, Great People live there but nowadays it is turning into drug, Wannabe gangster city, Turning much respected place by all to something all might avoid soon, I guess it is it's citizens duty to save it from these idiots. Be the place it deserves to be and be apple of India's eyes. Peace
