The first hospital on this site was St. Luke's, opened 1915. In 1973 St. Luke's merged with St. Mary's Hospital to form Marquette General Hospital (MGH). In 2012 the hospital was sold to Duke LifePoint. In 2019, Duke LifePoint opened Peninsula Medical Center and started moving its facilities from MGH to the new location. This move was completed by 2022, and demolition of MGH commenced. The site was sold to Northern Michigan University for re-development.
