Situated on the S61 loop ±21km north of Punda Maria camp.

Surrounding habitat consist mostly of tree-mopane savanna. The area has good grazing so relatively good animal sightings are possible. In particular one should look out for Sable antelope. The dam contains resident crocodiles and an assortment of water birds. In summer one could even spot an elusive corncrake in the surrounding grasslands. This dam and the adjacent area is also home to ostriches, elephant, lion, eland, and numerous other mammal, reptile and bird species.

The dam was named after Dirk Klopper, and ivory hunter from Louis Trichardt (town) who often camped near this spring during the late 1800's.
