DPL staff , China expert clash Durgapur,6th March,TNN: Employees of state-owned Durgapur Projects Limited(DPL)clashed with Chinese professionals engaged at the planton Thursday night.Seven were injured-six of them are CITU members,and the seventh is an employee of Dongfang Electric Company Ltd. Sources say tension had been brewing at the plant ever since the government handed the contract for the DPL pwer plant extension to Dongfang.worker unions wanted it to be given to Bharat Heavy Electrical Limited. The flashpoint was reached when the DPL seventh unit shut down a few days ago. The chinese team failed to identify the technical fault, but a private contractor succeeded on Thursday. DPL workers accused the chinese experts of "sitting idle". The slanging match turned into a fistfight around midnight. Iron rods and lathis were used as the two groups battled each other, at one point of time slugging it out in the CONTROL ROOM as well, sources said. It took POLICE INTERVENTION to end the violence.DPL workers Samir Nag, Suman Chandra Sen and Sukomal Goswami were admitted to DPL Hospital. Three others -Arindam Karfa, Shankar Das and Prabir Gorai were released after first-aid.The injured Dongfang employee, Xu Han Zhou is being treated at The Mission Hospital in Bidhan Nagar. Police has started a probe but no one has been arrested yet. None of the 22 Dongfang employees reported for work at the DPL site on Friday. |
