Hill's Bar, officially Hills Bar in the provincial gazette, was the most famous and also one of the richest gold-bearing bars on the Fraser River during the Fraser Canyon Gold Rush. The associated town, now vanished, was one of the settings of what is known as McGowan's War, a complicated confrontation between two groups of Californian miners which involved local British magistrates and prompted fears that American annexationists would usurp British authority, resulting in an armed expedition from Victoria.
