The traditional craft of Puri's Raghurajpur won hearts of art aficionados in Dublin, Ireland. Pattachitra, painting on tassar and palm leaf and toys made of cow dung and paper mache of the heritage village sold like hot cakes at the Ranelagh Art Festival in Dublin from September 16 to 29.
"All items on display were sold on the very first day of the exhibition. Curator Jean Doyle informed us about it and asked us for more," said joint secretary of Raghurajpur International Art and Cultural Exchange Sudarshan Swain. As many as 71 art works by 51 artists of Raghurajpur were displayed at the exhibition.
Sources said Doyle had visited Raghurajpur during an international cultural exchange programme in 2012 and proposed to organize an exhibition of the art works in Ireland.

"The artists got an international platform to showcase their works. They having working tirelessly to keep the tradition alive and the sale proceeds will go directly to them," said Swain. Raghurajpur houses about 150 artists.
