Battala (Chakdaha)

This is the place where once-upon-a-time, we used to do adda - morning till mid-night with Swapan, Bipu, Zeesu, Syamal, Goba, Khokan, Jamai, Pintu and many more. There used to be Govinda-da'r dokan - the oldest merchandise shop in that locality and also Hari-da’r (Chakraborty) Cha’er dokan. We also used to have Durga, Kali and Swarasati pujas. We introduced Thakur Viswarjan with lighted procession (by Subal - the Electrical magician) and street dancing, first time in Chakdah. We always used to get first prize in Procession mela conducted in Chakdah Thana'r mor. We had a half-build club house too, named Sandhani Sangha whose members' main duty was to find out (or sandhan) things that can be useful for frequent night-picnics. We also used to be in constant fights with other areas, mainly Bapuji Vidyamandir (Rabindranagar) and Khosbas Mahalla fellows. Girls of Bapuji Girls school used to hate us. I missed those days very much. .... Zeesu (now in USA)
