Flakturm (Flak Tower) (Vienna)

Austria / Wien / Vienna
tower, Second World War 1939-1945, military, interesting place

Flak towers (German: Flaktürme) were large anti-aircraft gun blockhouses used by the Luftwaffe to prevent overflights of key areas in certain cities in World War II.
Each Flak tower complex consisted of a G-Tower (Gun Tower), and a L-Tower (Fire Control Tower).
This was the G-Tower, whose armament of eight (four twin) 128 mm guns and thirty-two (eight quad) 20 mm guns was deadly and therefore, avoided by the aircraft.
