  • What is the composition and purpose of the leaf-like structures jutting out from the pyramid?
  • Interesting picture from space - outside of pyramid/ look at this! How in Naska-desert in Peru (Latin America)
  • The "leaves" fanning out from the west side of the pyramid enclosure are ridges of excavation debris dumped by archaeologists from the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, who investigated the pyramid from 1906 through 1922. Rather than just scatter the debris willy-nilly, and hence potentially confuse later archaeologists, the material dirt and rock was systematically dumped in a controlled fashion, with porters carrying baskets of dirt out the central "stems" and then to either side along the "leaves." Sorry, it has nothing to do with "chariots of the gods" or any other woo-woo silliness.
