Bavali Kudru -Neelavar

Bavali Kudru is a small beautiful Island sourrounded by Sita River. It has an ancient History. Bavali Kudru means Island of Bats. In Kannada language, Bavali means Bat and kudru means Island. Intially there were lots of Bats living here. Later due to falling of trees and people cutting down trees, Bats had to find other place to live. There are two small forests in the two sides of the Island. It's a beautiful place for picnics and one day outings because of the sandy river bank it has. In rainy seasons, you would rarely see some land except houses due to heavy floods. People are accoustomed to this wild reality which they face in every rainy season. One speciality of this Island is that all the 11 christian families living here are relatives in one or the other way. Nowadays most people are trying to move and settle out of this Island because of the scarcity of Job, education, income sources and basic facilities. But no doubt this island is still a paradise for a urban person who wants to relax in nature. -Written by Vivek (Bulla)

We were getting all things in this island like Fresh fish, crabs, shells, Sugar cane, Gulla (crabs), Alsande, Tambi Bhaji, Coriander Leaves and Of course Bats & fresh Tadi. My Grand parents Mothi and Santhana d'souza were traditionally give new corn to St. Peter church Barkur every year during monthi Feast event. Most excited part of this Island completely belong to One D'souza Family with four sons name Marshal, Mothi, Jackie and other one (can not remember name). Only Marshal & Mothi D'souza's few descendants are staying here. Other all families are migrated to this island
