The highest court in the United States, its nine members are appointed for life by the President of the United States.

The building was designed c. 1931 by Cass Gilbert with decoration by Paris & Wiley and Mack, Jenney & Tyler with Ezra Winter. It was completed around $500,000 under budget. The exterior ornamentation and doors were created by John Donnelly, Jr. Some of the sculptural work on the inside was by Adolph A. Weinman.
