Monroe County, Pennsylvania

Monroe County is located in eastern Pennsylvania, situated 90 miles north of Philadelphia, 75 miles west of New York and 116 miles east of Harrisburg. Today, the County stretches across 611 square miles of rural terrain, rolling hills, and farmlands to the more populated boroughs. It consists of 16 townships and 4 boroughs. The Townships are governed by supervisors and the Boroughs by mayors. As you can see from the Census information, we are growing rapidly, and in fact, we are the second fastest growing county in Pennsylvania.

Named in honor of James Monroe, the fifth president of the United States, the county is located in the east of the state, along its border with New Jersey. As of 2010, the population was 169,842. Its county seat is Stroudsburg.
