This bridge served as the location of one of Virginia's top entries into the Darwin Awards.
In the late 1990s a local teenager decided to have a thrill by bungee jumping off the bridge. Unfortunately, he miscalculated the height of the bridge (40 feet) and the fact that bungee cords have quite a bit of spring in them, so his use of a 40 foot bungee cord was not the smartest idea in the world.
In news coverage of the accident, the local sheriff even hinted that the lad was a few sandwiches short of a picnic basket.
