Maria-ter-Heide is a part-municipality of Brasschaat. Locally it’s also called “polygon”.
Maria-ter-Heide has a military base that will partially (Noord) be closed in2011
Fortress Brasschaat was part of the forts belt around Antwerp.
Along the area there is also the anti-tank trench around Antwerp.
From the railroad station of “Kapellen” runs a military railway line to Maria-ter-Heide. This railroad was primarily used to transport tanks.
Near the airfield, is a loading ramp. But the railway line is no longer in use.
