The Stone Canyon Reservoir Complex provides water to 400,000 customers in Pacific Palisades, the Santa Monica Mountains, and West Los Angeles. The reservoir complex is actually two reservoirs – an upper and a lower – with related facilities for pumping, chlorinating, and piping reservoir water. The reservoirs are located in the Santa Monica Mountains, 13 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles.

    Stone Canyon Reservoir is owned by the City of Los Angeles' Department of Water & Power. Presently the LADWP is constructing a filtration plant to take Stone Canyon out of potable water usage to comply with State and Federal water quality regulations. The reservoir will continue to hold water.
