This temple is one of the five temples of Lord Shiva's five faces:
1. Ramagiri (15kms from surutapalli),
2. Suruttapalli (in tamilnadu border)
3. Arani (near Periyapalayam,
4. Aryathurai (4 kms from Kavarapettai) and
5. Chinthamaneeswarar temple(in between palaverkadu village and Ennore close to the sea shore).
While coming from chennai you have to take a left side road near RMK engineering college at Kavarapetai and travel for another 3 kms to Ariyathurai. This is a Parikara sthalam for Marriage etc. The Shiva lingam here is worshiped by Mukuntha maharishi for 100yrs. This temple is several thousand years old. The temple is considered more sacred than Kasi and there is a perennial water stream near the temple.
