The Castro de la Mesa de Miranda is the site of a fortified city of the Celtic Vettones tribe. The remain of stone walls up to five meters thick can be seen on the 29 hectare site. The city was built in three sections over time, explaining the walls in the middle. It seems to have been abandoned around 150 BCE, prior to the Roman conquest of the area.
