Mall of America (also MOA, MoA, or the Megamall) is the largest indoor shopping mall in the United States, with 523 stores, employing 12,000 workers. The Mall receives 40 million visitors annually.
It is located in the Twin Cities suburb of Bloomington, Minnesota on the site of the former Metropolitan Stadium ( en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metropolitan_Stadium ).
There are reminders that "the Old Met" was here, located in the Nickelodeon Universe (formerly Camp Snoopy) area of the Mall of America. One reminder is a bronze plaque in the shape of home plate that says: "Metropolitan Stadium Home Plate 1956-1981." Another reminder is a red Metropolitan Stadium seat bolted to the wall. That is where Harmon Killebrew's 520 foot home run landed. All of the Metropolitan Stadium seats were green, the reason this seat is red is so it would stand out. When Met Stadium was still standing, there was a sign on the seat saying it was the seat that "The Killer's" home run landed. The mall is just southeast of the junction of Interstate 494 and Minnesota State Highway 77, and is across the interstate from the Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport. Light rail connects the Mall with the airport and downtown Minneapolis.
In addition to being the largest mall in the United States (yes, it still is: King of Prussia is two malls), each of the two attached parking ramps by themselves are the largest parking ramps in North America. The mall is planning a phase-2 expansion onto the neighboring former site of the Metropolitan Center arena, which will double the Mall's size.
